Well it’s wall to wall sport at the moment – Wimbledon has just finished, England’s World Cup semi final takes place this evening and the Open starts tomorrow.
And below is a round up of recent sports news from HGC! Please note we’ll have the Hilda Timpson results in next week’s missive.
Mid Cheshire Junior League (MCJL) Open (Sun 12/7/26)
This competition was played at Northenden GC and each club was represented by three juniors. Cam Smurtwaite, Charlie Blake and Ben Hinton did the honours for Hale. Ben was the pick of the three returning a very creditable 33 points in his first away MCJL fixture.
Lymm were the winners with 74 stableford points and Knutsford were second with 73 points.
Pro Am (Sat 11/7/26)
We had another great day for the Pro Am with 22 teams taking part. The course was fiery and the greens were slick meaning there was only one pro who scored under par. That of course was Jason Dransfield from Heswall who shot a 68 to win the individual event for the 4th consecutive year. Freddy Valenti was second a level par 70. Sonny Lewis & Matt Tottey were tied third with 71s.

In the team event 129 (-11) was the winning score and that went to visitors Lee Corcoran (pro), Mark Selfox , Adam Selfox & Tim Griffiths. Finishing second following a card play off were Jason Dransfield, Paul Gilbert, Andy Gething & Tim Forrest. The third, fourth and fifth placed finishers were:
- 3rd Richard Booth, Helen Davies, Mike Thompson & Matty Manners 131
- 4th Clarion Wealth team of Freddy Valenti, Tracey Thompson, Mandy Gilbert & Tiff Fielden 132
- 5th Jon Bevan, Chris Brown, Mike Kirchin & Paul Hilton 133
The Nearest the Pin on the 4th hole was won by Martin Quinn and on the 11th hole by Chris Hinton. The Nearest the Line prize on the 15th hole was won by Tim Griffiths.
Thanks to Russ & the team for getting the course in great shape, Zoe & Martin and team for feeding and watering us so well and for every team that entered and supported the event.
Ladies B9 Max Medal (Thu 9/7/26)
Mary Cockbain won with an excellent nett 32. Amanda Greaves was second with a nett 35 and Kathleen McNairney was one shot further back to finish in third place.

Seniors Summer Stableford 4 (Wed 8/7/26)
Well done to Ian Powell for winning with a great total of 22 stableford points. Newly retired Tim Frank was the runner up with 21 points and John Kennedy third with 19 points.
MCJL at Hale (Sun 5/7/26)
We won our home fixture in the best 3 from 5 stableford score format. Twenty five players took part and our players finished in 1st, 3rd and 4th positions so it was an excellent performance. Team and individual results are displayed below.
