A new manufacturer for junior golf clubs. Why not book a complimentary, no obligation appointment when they visit on the 23rd July?

Introducing UpSwing Golf — The Junior Equipment That Grows With The Player

One of the most common frustrations for parents of junior golfers is the cost of constantly replacing clubs as their child grows. UpSwing Golf has solved that problem with a genuinely innovative approach to junior equipment.

At the heart of the brand is a patented, pro-level modular system that allows the shafts on each club to be swapped out as a junior develops—eliminating the need to buy entirely new sets at every growth stage. Crucially, the system is engineered to maintain balance, feel and performance throughout, so young players are never compromised by ill-fitting equipment.

Sizing is based on height rather than age. The range spans three tiers: the Junior 4-Club Set (up to 42″), the JR Varsity 7-Club Set (42″–54″) and the Varsity 11-Club Set (54″–66″). Growth Kits are also available, allowing parents to upgrade between sizes without starting from scratch.

Importantly, these are not scaled-down adult clubs. Every element — shaft flex, head weight, club length — is specifically engineered for junior swing speeds, promoting better technique, consistent swing mechanics and confidence from the very first swing.

Lady Captain’s Away Day (Tues 23/6/26)

Over to Wendy Jenkins for the match report!

Lady Captain chose Bramhall Golf Club for her Away Day on Tuesday 23rd June, with 27 players attending. The general consensus was that the course was beautiful and the hospitality and food of a high standard. The weather was, well, in a word –  scorchio!

Despite the extreme heat, some very good scores were entered.  The winning 18-hole team were Jane Perks, Pat Jefferies and Michele Rea. In second place were Mary Cockbain, Jo Egerton and Caroline Smith. The 9-hole winner was Lynette Lodge. Winner of nearest the pin was Mandy Gilbert and winner of nearest the line was Pauline Keeling. The organisers (Mandy & Wendy) also received a beautiful gift from Lady Captain. The only birdie of the day was from Kate Morris who chipped in magnificently for a 4 on the 1st.

MacMillan “Mighty HIkes” Walk on Sat 6/6/26

The route followed the spectacular Ullswater Way, starting from Dalemain Mansion near Penrith and encircling the iconic lake to showcase sweeping views and dramatic waterfalls. It was great fun and thankfully the weather was kind to us with minimal rain.

It’s not too late if you’d like to sponsor me for this very worth cause. Please click here to access the donation page. Thank you so much to everyone who has already parted with their hard earned money.

Race to Woohall Spa

Over to Sally Wright for her excellent write up on this event below

The Race to Woodhall Spa is an England Golf competition which identifies the top male, female and junior player from each club based on the lowest aggregate of their best four net score differentials from 18 hole WHS qualifying competitions over the year from January to December. The reports that are generated by England Golf are up on the boards in the clubhouse so you can see how you fared last year.

The winners in each category go on to a regional qualifier and then if successful will have the chance to compete in the finals at the home of England Golf – The National Golf Centre at Woodhall Spa between Tuesday 11th August and Wednesday 12th August. The finalists are treated to an overnight stay with dinner bed and breakfast and lunch on the competition day.

This year our winners are:

Junior: Jack Hickson
Ladies: Sally Blackburn
Men: Antony Morris (Antony actually came 2nd behind Jim Nicholson but Jim is sadly unavailable to compete in the regional qualifier.)

Sally and Antony are taking part in the regional qualifier at Eaglescliffe Golf Club in Northumberland on Sunday 5th July so we wish them the best of luck for that.

Jack is in his GCSE year and can’t travel too far with all his revision and exams going on. He is currently on the reserve list for the junior qualifier at Hazel Grove GC on 31st May so fingers crossed someone drops out and he gets the chance to compete.

Not many people were aware of this competition so this year we will post the report at the half way stage so you can see your progress and try and better your scores and boost your chance of representing Hale GC in 2027!

Lady Captain was delighted to present a cheque for £5,250 to her chosen charity, Macclesfield Samaritans and thanked all club members for their generous contributions.

    Drive In Approaching

Welcome to this week’s newsletter. We have lots of results to review and lots more to look forward to – starting with the Drive In on Saturday and the Masters on the 9th April.

    Drive In

As per the last couple of years, we are running a sweepstake to guess the cumulative distance of the three drives (gents captain Mike Thompson, ladies captain Helen Davies and junior captain Ollie Lynch).

The price to enter is £5 and that money is split 50:50. Half goes to the lady captain’s charity, which is Moya Cole and the other half goes into the pot to the winner who’s closest to the actual distance. The prize will be in Pro Shop credit.

So please let me know if you’d like to have a go. The distances range from 350 – 700 yards in one yard increments. You can pay using pro shop credit or club card credit. Thank you.

    Choir (Sat 17/1/26)

A picture of the choir from 10 days ago. The concert went well supported by HGC members, friends, family of the choir as well as some volunteers. A great evening was had by all and the proceeds went to Macclesfield Samaritans. Well done to LC Vicky Chamberlain for organising the event.

    Over 25s vs 25 & Unders

Would you like to represent your age group in a match between members of HGC? One team will be the ages 25 and under and the other team will be the over 25s.

It will be played over nine holes with tee times from 1300 – 1500 on Sunday 22nd March 2026. The format will be fourball betterball matchplay. It will be played from the yellow or red tees depending on which is more appropriate for each particular fourball. The ideal fourball would be one junior and a young adult member (aged 18-25) vs two members over the age of 25.

This is something new and a little different. It will provide all players the opportunity to get to know different generations in a fun & friendly matchplay format.

It will be open to players with & without handicaps and also to non members (if they are the parent / grandparent of a junior member). We will make sure that players skill levels are matched appropriately with the faster players teeing off earlier. If the event is oversubscribed, club members will take priority,

There will be an opportunity to grab an informal bite to eat after play with your playing partners, which should ensure a nice buzz to the clubhouse during the afternoon. Menu options will be sent out at a later date.

Please contact me if you’d like to play.

We received this thank you note recently from the RBL. Well done to everyone who contributed.
