Custom fitting

The right clubs, measured rather than guessed

There’s an indoor studio just off the Pro Shop with a Trackman launch monitor in it. For lessons, it means we can work through January as easily as June. For fitting, it means the numbers decide — shaft, lie, loft and length — instead of you buying whatever happened to be in stock.

I’m a Ping specialist, and fittings are available across the brands I stock. It’s a simulator too, so you can play Bethpage Black without leaving WA15.

He took time to explain everything clearly, helped me to adjust to a much more effective grip and built my confidence to start successfully chipping and putting! Richard gave me more helpful advice in this 45 minute lesson than I could have imagined. He has a calm approach and and somehow keeps things simple and easy to understand and then implement. The use of the club stickers and Trackman were excellent tools. I will be taking the advice provided away to practice, but definitely returning for more lessons to help me improve further.

If what you want isn’t in stock, ask me before you go anywhere else. I can source most things and I’ll always try to match the price.

About Richard

I started at Royal Birkdale, where I won the PGA Trainee of the Year Award sponsored by Titleist, then completed my PGA training just down the coast at Royal Lytham & St Annes. After qualifying I moved south — first to a 64-bay range in Surrey where I coached full time and learned my trade properly, then to the Drift in East Horsley, running corporate days alongside playing county and regional PGA events.

My wife Elizabeth, and I, came home to the North West in 2008, and I took the job at Hale the following year. I’m one of a relatively small group of PGA Professionals to hold Advanced status, and I still compete — most recently winning the Manchester & District Golf Alliance Individual in 2024 and the Cheshire & North Wales Open in 2023.
