Well the weather really has been much improved over the last few days as the greenstaff are finally able to get back to cutting the grass. The course is starting to look really lovely again.
The Astbury ladies had an exchange day here yesterday and we’re very enthusiastic about the course, which was very gratifying to hear.
On Monday from 2-3pm we have a group driving lesson with space available. It’s open to a maximum of four players and the price is £25 per person. Those that have attanded these sessions so far have given good feedback on them. It’s open to ladies and gents. If you like to join us, please book your spot by getting in touch with me.
Bank Holiday Frolic
We ran a reverse waltz 9 hole Frolic on Monday. Thanks to Tiff for doing the vast majority of sorting things out.
There was a fancy dress theme and we had joint winners on that score: the Bad Habits (comprising of Sally Budd, Jonny Yates, Jane Wilkinson and Ann Coulson) and the May Day-ers (comprising of Andrew & Gill Kay and Diana & Richard Hogben).
The golf was also won by the Bad Habits with 40 points. In second place with 35 points were Freda & Ian Hunt and Min & Andrew Fishwick. Third place went to Judith Guest, Grham Jones and Val & Conrad Nelstrop with 32 points.
Mid Cheshire Junior League (MCJL)
Well done to junior captain Matthew Hodder, Joe Booth and Olly Mills for representing HGC in the first event of this year’s league format at Hazel Grove. Joe, playing in his first event of this nature, strolled round in 38 stableford points to finish in second place, just one point behind the winner. Amazing stuff Joe, well done!
Matthew and Olly both scored 26 points making our three player cumulative score 90 points. This was enough to put us in second place in the five team league with four fixtures to play. Hazel Grove are top with 99 points. The next event is at Wilmslow GC on Sunday 26th May.
Nine Hole Stableford
On Saturday, we ran the second nine hole stableford as part of our Order of Merit series. Maz Lund was the winner with 19 points. Dave Smith finished second with 18 points and Noelle Morris was third with 17 points.
Noelle leads the OoM though after the two events with Chris Wood and John Kennedy sharing second spot. The next event is on Sat 25th May and bookings open this Sunday at 8pm.
Pro Am 2024
This year’s HGC Pro Am takes place on Saturday 13th July. There are still 5 team spaces available (in the morning). It’s open to ladies and gents, members or non members. The price to enter is £240 if all amateur members are HGC members. If one of more of the team are not HGC members then the entry fee is £270.
It’s a really great day at the club. If you’ve not played in it before, just ask anyone who has and they’ll tell the same. Please contact me to get involved!
Photos
Thanks to Anne Webster for sending in these excellent photos from her new home in Surbiton as Hale gentleman members came to visit. On the left hand / top photo, we have (from left to right) Mike Kirchin, Chris Brown, Anne, Jonny Yates and Lord John Lee. The other photo includes Anne’s friend Fay.
Thanks also to Andrew Fishwick for sending in these photos of a Mandarin drake and hen on the 6th hole, which was taken on Saturday.
Shop Opening Hours
Next week I’m playing in the PGA Seniors Championship at Moor Park which runs from Wednesday to Friday. I’m really looking forward to it. As is often the case, I wish i was better prepared for it. So I’ll just give it my best and see where that takes me. I’m also away on the Saturday and Sunday too.
This means that Phil is stepping in to cover the shop in my absence. The shop will be open everyday but is closing mid afternoon on most of those days. Please call Phil on 0161 249 8427 if you are making a special journey and I’ll still be checking my emails while I’m away (richardsboothuk@gmail.com)
