This week’s missive is a whopper with lots of news and results to catch up on.
Pro Am 2026
This year’s HGC Pro Am takes place on Sat 11th July. We still have some morning team spaces available so please contact me to find out more. It’s open to men and ladies and the feedback from those that play is always super positive.
Masters Sweepstake
Well done to Rory at the Masters and just as importantly CJ Brown who managed to get him in the sweepstake!
Junior F9 Stableford (Sun 12/4/26)
Congrats to Cam Smurthwaite for recording 19 points in poor weather conditions to beat Ollie Lynch on countback.
Spring Stableford (Sat 11/4/26)
Well on Saturday we introduced divisions in to the men’s comps for the first time. Division 1 is for 0-18 handicaps and Division 2 is for 19+ handicaps.
In Div 1, Gary Beal won with 35 points and Freddie Fallows was second with the same score.
And in Div 2, Mark Haywood also won with 35 points and Seb Butterworth was second just one point adrift. Special mention to Ivor Davies who also recorded 35 points but wasn’t eligible to pick up a prize as he hasn’t yet played the requisite number of comps.
Nine & Dine (Fri 10/4/26)
The winners of this fun team event were Ann & Garrett Coulson and Mark & Helen William’s. In joint second and not even countback could seperate them, we have Mike Thompson, Rob Manley, Kathleen McNairney and Rowena Allen and Gill & Andrew Kay, Rosie Gerrard & Dave Smith.

Ladies Max Score Medals (Thu 9/4/26)
The F9 max medal was won by Pat Jefferies with a nett 35 and Jane Wilkinson was the runner up with a nett 34.
In the 18 hole event, Rachel McDowell won with a nett 70 and Jo Bates was one shot behind to finish second.

Trip to Enville (7-8th April 2026)
We had a wonderful trip to Enville GC in Shropshire last week for two rounds of golf and an overnight stay in the nearby Red Lion pub. There was myself and 15 HGC members in attendance and it was wall to wall sunshine.
The winners of the best two from four competition on day one were Johnny Yates, Chris Brown, Roger Sheen & Al Kenney with 76 points. On day two, it was Johnny Yates (again – well done JY!), Sally Budd, Jane Wilkinson & Vicky Chamberlain with an excellent 89 point tally.

Frolic (Mon 6/4/26)
Looks like the Coulsons have the hang of team golf with another win, this time at the Frolic. On this occassion, they were joined by Tony & Fran Adamson and scored 41 points to win. In seond place were Gillian & Eric Healey, Mary & David Cockbain who were beaten on a CPO.

Archie Preston Mixed Foursomes InterClub Knockout
Unfortuanely we lost this away match at Chapel-en-le-Frith GC by 4:3 on Sat 4th April.
Ladies (Thu 2/4/26)
Noelle Morris romped home with 42 points to win the 18 hole stableford. Fiona Webster was second with 36 points.
In the F9 stableford, Sally Wright, Michelle Rea, Jane Perks – all scored 17 points but Sally won on countback.
Pro Shop Indoor Winter League Final (Thu 2/4/26)
Ollie Grieves & John Book won on the 1st play off hole beating Bob Siddle & Peter Wolfenden. It was their second consecutive win in this event. Well done!

Drive In (Sat 28/3/26)
As has become tradition, there was a nine hole Texas Scramble shotgun competition before the Captains’ Drive in.
The winners were Mike Kirchin, Steve Bates, Paul Allen & Helen Williams with a gross 35. Second place went to Chris Adams, Chris Ravenscroft, John Stevenson & Kate Webster with a gross 37 after a CPO meaning Ian Goulty, Jan Ravenscroft, William Wrigley & Kate Morris were third.
The Drive In went successfully but probably safe to say that the cumulative distance of the three drives wasn’t the longest ever recorded! However we raised £215 for Moya Cole, Helen’s charity for her time in office, via the sweepstake. Thanks to everyone who took part.

Ladies (Thu 26/3/26)
A tree blew down so the 4th / 13th hole was closed for the competitions on this day.
So in the F8 stableford, Orla Weir beat Nicola Kitching following a card play off after both players had scored 17 points.
In the 16 hole stableford, Kairen Seaton won with a very good score of 36 points. In second place was Noelle Morris with 31 points.
The Last Tea
I attach some photos from Ladies tea tonight which may be of use for your next newsletter.
Thanks to Wendy Jenkins for sending me the info below:
It was Lady Captain Vicky Chamberlain’s last tea. She commented on what a wonderful year she has had and thanked the Ladies Section, and particularly her Committee, for all their support: she is pictured with committee members Sally Budd, Noelle Morris, Jane Wilkinson, Pauline Keeling and Amanda Greaves.
Lady Captain was delighted to present a cheque for £5,250 to her chosen charity, Macclesfield Samaritans and thanked all club members for their generous contributions.
