The course is looking great, the weather is behaving better and there’s lots of golf to report on – what’s not to like! Let’s dive straight in….
Ping Demo Day
Alex Mason from Ping is coming to HGC on the 10th July from 1100 – 1500. He’ll bring bags (literally!) of the latest Ping clubs for you to try. If you are interested in trying and ultimately buying new clubs, please contact me to book in your apointment. There are only going to be six slots available so don’t waste time 🙂
MCJL at Bramall Park GC
Junior captain Matthew Hodder and Olly Mills flew the flag for Hale GC by competing in the first Mid Cheshire Junior League (MCJL) fixture of the season at Bramall Park GC on Sunday. Matthew scored an excellent 37 points. We’re at Warrington on Sunday and then then we host on Sunday 25th June.
Gentleman Captain’s Prize
As Brian Greenbank put it so eloquently, nobody beat the course on Saturday. It was closely bunched at the top though with Jonny Gray finishing first with 35 points. Graham Jones recorded the same score but lost on a card play off to claim second spot. The world most poorly paid greenkeeper Bill Harvey was third with 34 points!
Only 5 twos were recorded from the very full field. The Shortest Drive prize was bagged by Richard Hogben on the 10th hole. He later claimed it was purely for positional purposes! And the Furthest from the Flag prize on the new 13th hole was won by Bill Dixon, who alas didn’t convert it into a two!
Poor Glyn Isaac’s trolley ended up in the pond on the 4th/13th. It would seem by the number of photos I received of the event and it’s aftermath that his friends weren’t overly sympathetic 🙁
Adult Junior Comp
Congrats to William & James Meadowcroft for winning Friday night’s event with 20 points. Noelle & Sam Morris were beaten on a card play off to finish as runners up.
That win puts William out in front in the OoM with three events to play. However Sam Morris and Matthew Hodder are tucked in close behind.
If you would like to play in the next event on Fri 23rd June then please let me know. If you want to know what I’m talking about and whether your eligble, then please drop me a line!
Ladies 18 & 9 Hole Stablefords
Well done to Sally Budd for recording a great score of 39 stableford points to win last week’s 18 hole satbleford competition. Our hard working secretary Vicky Chamberlain was second with 37 points.
In the nine hole competition, Val Nelstrop continued her excellent recent form to win again with 19 points. Noelle Morris, who is also playing some very steady golf at the moment, was runner up with 16 points.
I love this recent tweet from Jon Sherman of Practical Golf. It’s something we all need to remember, especially when we are so fortunate to play at such a great course and club.
Photos
Here’s a photo of the Shanks Golf Society assembling at the Britannia Inn in Aberdovey last Wednesday prior to their Spring Meeting at Aberdovey GC. Thanks to Alan Bradley for the photo. And a little birdie told me that the current gentleman captain Roger Laitt was the winner of the week 🙂
Thanks to David Burkinshaw for sending in this photo of him having a spot of tree trouble on the 17th hole in Saturday’s Captain’s Prize. I love the trolley in the background to give the photo a little perspective 🙂
