The season is most definitely in full swing as we have a long newsletter this week with loads of results and golf news to report on. Please enjoy!
Firstly, a quick reminder about the Ping Demo Day which takes place at HGC on Monday 10th July. We still have a few spots left so please contact me to reserve your complimentary space.
Frolic
On Monday, teams of four played a reverse waltz stableford from the red tees over the back nine holes. It was a really great turnout and the winners were Kairen Seaton, Joe Bluer, Nick Horrocks and Sally Budd with 48 points. Vicki Wells, Michael Wells, Louise Gerald and Roger Sheen recorded the same score but were beaten into second place following a card play off.
Archie Preston
On Sunday, we played Flixton GC in the Archie Preston at home. The format of this competition is team mixed pairs. Hale romped to a fabulous victory winning all of the first six matches meaning the final match was called in from the course. We will find out in a few days who our next opponents will be.
The team comprised of the Captains; Chris Marsh & Brian Greenbank; Mandy Gilbert & Andrew Cowan; Helen Davies & Paul Simpson; Clare Withey & Dave McGlennon; Sally Budd & Dave Smith and Gwynneth Bramwell & Jonny Gray.
Well done to the whole teams and the photos below show that there was still time for a bit of frivolity…
MCJL
This week our three intrepid juniors played at Styal GC, a course that none of them were familiar with, and acquitted themselves excellently. Seemingly the course was playing tricky with it’s firm greens and thick rough. Junior captain Matthew Hodder recorded 34 points to finish in 7th spot. Alex Keeling was 8th and Sam Morris 17th in a large field of golfers. All of the boys were taking time away from their GCSE revision to represent the club so very well done.
Spring (ish) Stableford
The rescheduled Spring Stableford took place on Saturday and Chris Wood rolled back the years and rolled in the putts to shoot a magnificient 44 points. Dave McGlennon scored a very impressive 41 points to secure second spot. Chris Ravenscroft was third with 39 points. Only four twos were recorded during the competition.
Junior Stableford
Well done to junior captain Matthew Hodder for winning Saturday’s junior stableford with 17 points. He took a break from GCSE revision to take part. Ollie Grieves was second.
Ladies Away Day
The ladies had a lovely day at Astbury GC last week for their exchange day. The winners on the day were Gillian Healey, Lynette Lodge, Kathleen McNairney and Jo Egerton with 92 points. Clare Withey, Sue Bryant, Vicki Wells and Sally Blackburn also recorded 92 points but were beaten into second place on count back. Mandy Gilbert, Wendy Jenkins, Judith Guest, and Val Nelstrop recorded 89 points to finish in third place.
The nearest the pin prize was won by Mandy Gilbert and Jennifer Bradley won the nearest the line challenge. Thanks to Sue Bryant for these wonderful photos and to Gail Sampson & Louise Gerald for orgaanising the day.
Ollie on Tour
Thanks to John Book for supplying this text and these great photos of his grandson and junior member, Ollie Grieves. He was representing Hale GC earlier int he week in his second Northern Junior Golf Tour event at Carlisle GC.
The course was tough but really pleasant and Ollie finished fifth on two under par nett out of his intermediate group of 19 players.
At Crewe GC, a couple of weeks ago Ollie finished fourth out of tweleve in his age group. Ollie is playing in another of these events on Wednesday at Selby followed by his last one at Barrow in July.
As John pointed out, these events have been a really good experience for Ollie, and despite him being really nervous when his name gets announced on the first tee, he is able to put himself to the test admirably.
Well done Ollie for having the courage to play in these competitions and we hope your results continue to go from strength to strength.
Inaugural Hole in One
Well done to Bill Wrigley for recording the first ever hole in one on the new fourth hole last week. He was watched by Brian and Phil Long. It’s Bill second hole in one, the first was recorded at Sale GC.
Photo
Thanks to Noelle Morris for sending in this evening photo of the course. It’s of Gillian Brogdon and Gillian Healey following their foursomes matchplay victory last week over Nancy Fallows and Noelle.
